In spite of practicing motorcycle safety, deadly crashes occur

Those who indulge in their love for motorcycles are aware of the dangers they face from road conditions, weather and inattentive or intoxicated drivers. In spite of the efforts riders take to practice motorcycle safety, operators are not always able to anticipate and avoid the possibility of being caught up in a horrific crash. One Arizona man was killed, and his female passenger was injured when they were involved in a crash.

According to the police report, a 22-year-old motorist was driving an SUV along a local road when she attempted to complete a left-hand turn. Unfortunately, she failed to yield the right-of-way to an oncoming motorcycle being driven by a 21-year-old man. The motorcycle was in the curb-side lane when the collision occurred.

Both the driver and his passenger were ejected from the motorcycle by the force of the impact. Both were wearing helmets at the time, but the male suffered fatal injuries in the wreck. The woman, who was later identified as the driver’s girlfriend, suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. The motorist was assessed for intoxication and is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter, endangerment and aggravated assault.

The tragic accident occurred just minutes away from the male victim’s home. The father has expressed his hope that the motorist will face appropriate consequences for the harm she has inflicted on the families involved. Those who ride these machines are urged to practice motorcycle safety and to wear appropriate gear to guard against injuries. However, when fellow motorists are inattentive to the presence of motorcyclists, serious collisions are more likely to happen. Those who are injured or sustain significant monetary damages caused by the negligence of another party may pursue all legal measures through Arizona’s civil courts to recover their documented damages.
