Arizona teen killed in car crash: Police blame impaired driver

Those who have been convicted of impaired driving are often punished with fines and other measures that are meant to protect others from harm. Unfortunately, in spite of these deterrents, there will be motorists who will continue to pose a danger to fellow travelers. Sadly, one Arizona teenager was killed in car crash caused by an allegedly impaired driver.

Arizona officials recently placed a 54-year-old man under arrest for causing a series of accidents that resulted in the death of the 17-year-old girl and left three other victims injured. The man purportedly confessed to police that he had ingested a few tablets of a controlled substance before climbing behind the wheel on an automobile. The motorist then engaged in erratic driving that led to the car in which the girl was a passenger being pushed into the path of oncoming traffic.

According to the report, the man has a previous impaired driving conviction, requiring him to drive a vehicle with ignition interlock device installed. The vehicle he was operating at the time of the fatal wreck did not have such a device installed. He is facing multiple charges, including reckless manslaughter and aggravated DUI.

The mother of the deceased girl expressed her shock and despair at the news that her child had perished in the car crash. The condition of the three injured victims is unknown. Those who have suffered serious injuries — or lost loved ones — as a result of a crash caused by an impaired or otherwise negligent driver are often saddled with the burden of mounting debt that stems from medical bills and/or the cost of final expenses. Victims may choose to pursue claims for compensation for their financial losses through the state’s civil justice system via a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit.
